Music and music-related works held in Lambeth Palace Library beautifully illustrate the rich musical heritage of the Church in England and music history more generally. Some works you would expect to find here, such as service books from before and after the Reformation and hymnbooks across many centuries. Other items displayed here may be more surprising, and tell fascinating stories.
This exhibition explores various genres of music found in our collections. At its heart is the magnificent Arundel or Lambeth Choirbook, one of only two surviving large-scale Choirbooks from early sixteenth-century England. The exhibition also highlights exciting musical fragments that have recently come to light, outlining how we are sharing these new discoveries with the world.
