SUMMARY:Guided Tours of Lambeth Palace Library
DESCRIPTION:On the day of Lambeth Palace’s September Garden Open Day\, Lambeth Palace Library will be running guided tours of the Library\, including a chance to visit our Collections Care Studio and our amazing London view from our 8th floor terrace! \n\n\n\nTickets can be booked ahead of time via our Eventbrite page\, with limited tickets also available on the day of the event. \n\n\n\nThis is not a ticket for the Garden Open Day\, you will need to purchase these for £5 on the door at Lambeth Palace or via the Lia’s Wings Eventbrite page. All proceeds from the day will go to Lia’s Wings to support their work. \n\n\n\nAll visitors need to be aware of the following for the Garden Open Day: \n\n\n\n\nThe gates open at midday\, with the open day closing at 3pm. Last entry will be at 2.30pm.\n\n\n\nTickets are available on the day. Admission is £5 for adults with free tickets for children and carers. It celebrates the ways in which women and their books were an integral part of England’s devotional\, intellectual\, and bibliographical cultures. Beginning in the late fifteenth century\, the exhibition examines the production and use of books for personal and spiritual practices; books as a statement of power and piety; the development of the commercial trade in books; books as a site to demonstrate women’s intellectual ability; and the material evidence of women’s book ownership. \n\n\n\nAbout ‘Building on Cathedrals: \n\n\n\nIn collaboration with Cardiff University Special Collections and Archives (SCA) and the University of Wyoming\, Lambeth Palace Library is embarking on a groundbreaking digital project. This venture uses cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI)\, such as caption detection and object recognition tools\, to analyse the historical iconography of recently digitised material from the Library’s collections.

SUMMARY:Helen Smith (University of York): Voices in Ink: Early Modern Women and Print

She also comments on the gendered relations between writing\, translating\, publishing\, and reading discernible in literature from this era. She will join us at Lambeth Palace Library to discuss women’s roles in the printing industry in the early modern period. \n\n\n\nAll are welcome\, but those wishing to attend should book a free ticket via Eventbrite or email archives@churchofengland.org no later than Wednesday 18 September. \n\n\n\nPlease note that tickets must be booked individually for security purposes.
