DESCRIPTION:On the day of Lambeth Palace’s July Garden Open Day\, Lambeth Palace Library will be running guided tours of the Library\, including a chance to visit our Collections Care Studio and our amazing London view from our 8th floor terrace! \n\n\n\nTickets can be booked ahead of time\, with limited tickets also available on the day of the event. \n\n\n\nThis is not a ticket for the Garden Open Day\, you will need to purchase these for £5 on the door at Lambeth Palace or in the Library on the day in aid of the Evelina Children’s Hospital. \n\n\n\nAll visitors need to be aware of the following for the Garden Open Day: \n\n\n\n\nThe gates open at midday\, with the open day closing at 3pm. Last entry will be at 2.30pm.\n\n\n\nTickets are available on the day. Admission is £5 for adults with free tickets for children and carers. Dogs are welcome.\n\n\n\nRefreshments will be available to purchase in the garden marquee.\n\n\n\nPlease be aware that security searches will be in operation.\n\n\n\n\nAccess to our exhibitions ‘Her Booke: Early Modern Women and their Books at Lambeth Palace Library’ and ‘Women and the Church of England’ is NOT ticketed and free to all. \n\n\n\nYou can purchase tickets via our Eventbrite page.

SUMMARY: Professor James Hendler: Artificial Intelligence and the Archive
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a discussion with Jim Hendler\, a pioneer in the field of artificial intelligence and a leading voice in the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and archives. With Pip Willcox\, Head of Lambeth Palace Library\, he will describe his recent work with generative AI and the archive of Emily Roebling\, and the possibilities for AI to enhance our understanding of history and the accessibility of archives. He will touch on the current relationship between AI and archives\, and explore their potential for mutual transformation. \n\n\n\nJim Hendler is the Tetherless World Professor of Computer\, Web\, and Cognitive Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and Founding Director of the Institute for Data\, Artificial Intelligence\, and Computing. He also directs the RPI-IBM Artificial Intelligence Research Collaboration and serves on the Board of the UK’s charitable Web Science Trust. One of the originators of the Semantic Web\, Professor Hendler has authored over 450 books\, technical papers\, and articles in areas including Open Data\, AI\, and data policy. His most recent book\, co-authored with Dr Alice Mulvehill\, is Social Machines: The coming collision of artificial intelligence\, social networking and humanity. \n\n\n\nHis career includes roles such as the former Chief Scientist of the Information Systems Office at the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)\, adviser on the US government’s data.gov open data website\, and Open Data Advisor to New York State. He has been recognised with numerous accolades\, including the US Air Force Exceptional Civilian Service Medal\, is chair of the ACM’s global Technology Policy Council\, and holds fellowships with the US National Academy of Public Administration\, the AAAI\, AAAS\, ACM\, BCS and IEEE. \n\n\n\nThis event promises to offer a fascinating perspective on technological progress and its applications in our cultural heritage. \n\n\n\nBook a ticket via Eventbrite or email archives@churchofengland.org no later than Monday 15 July.
